Conservation Education

Envirothon Contest
Environmental competition for students grades 9-12. Teams of 5 students train and are tested in five areas (Wildlife, Soils, Forestry & Plants, Aquatics and the Current Environmental Issue). Training starts in September through April. Contests are held in April & May.

Photo Contest
Photo categories are: Trees and Plants, Wildlife, Landscapes, Education, Conservation and Youth only. (This category is designed for youths up to age 18 and may cover any of the previously mentioned categories.) No age limit. Each participant may enter up to five photos and photos will not be returned. Entries due November 1st of each year.

Speech Contest
For students grades 9-12. Topic for 2002 is "Aquifer Management-What's In It For Me?" Speeches need to be five to eight minutes. Entries are due the first Wednesday in September. Contact us for entry forms and material on the speech topic. 1st Place winner receives $50.00 and 2nd Place $25.00. 1st Place winners are expected to compete in the Area Speech Contest.

Poster and Limerick Contest
Grades 3rd through 6th. Entries are due January 1st of each year. Poster board is supplied by Riley County Conservation District.

Essay Contest
Grades 5th and 6th. Entries are due January 1st of each year.
